Message from the President

Letter from SRS President – Dr. Richard Cowling

March, 2026

Dear Members of the Society of Rogerian Scholars,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to share several important updates, opportunities, and upcoming events within our Society. First, I encourage you to visit the Society of Rogerian Scholars website for valuable information about our organization, including recent news and resources. Notably, you will find a newly developed packet describing instruments specifically designed for research grounded in the Science of Unitary Human Beings. Please also save the date for the 39th Annual Society of Rogerian Scholars Conference, which will be held virtually from October 16–18, 2026. Additional details, including the call for abstracts, will be shared soon. We are currently seeking individuals to serve in key leadership roles within the Society. Members are invited to self-nominate or recommend colleagues for the following positions: President, Secretary, three Directors of the Board, and Chair of the Nominations Committee. These positions carry two-year terms (2026–2028). Nominations should be sent to Julianne Mazzawi (julianne.mazzawi@umb.edu) by May 1, 2026, with a copy to richardcowling3@gmail.com.

The SRS website also includes information about two important grant opportunities:

  • The Martha E. Rogers (MER) Foundation Grant supports research, evidence-based practice, and clinical projects grounded in Rogers’ Science of Unitary Human Beings. The 2026 award is $5,000, with a submission deadline of April 1, 2026.

  • The Elizabeth Ann Manhart Barrett Power as Knowing Participation in Change Grant supports work related to Barrett’s theory, including application, evaluation, and policy implications. This $5,000 award has a deadline of November 1, 2026.

We are also pleased to continue the Dialogues 2026 series: All Things Rogerian. Occurring during the Year of the Fire Horse—a time symbolizing energy, transformation, and new beginnings—this series invites movement beyond reflection toward action and growth while remaining grounded in Rogers’ theoretical foundations. Dialogues are planned for April, June, and August, with recordings available on the SRS website. The first Dialogue, “Pandimensional Truth in Nursing,” was held on February 24, 2026, co-hosted by Nancey France and Violet Malinski.

Membership renewal notices will be distributed beginning in April. We encourage you to renew promptly and to invite colleagues to join SRS. Membership includes access to Advances in Nursing Science, featuring Visions: Scholarship of Rogerian Nursing Science, a unique venue for advancing knowledge in our discipline.

We also welcome manuscript submissions focused on Rogerian Nursing Science for Visions. Author guidelines are available here: https://journals.lww.com/advancesinnursingscience/Pages/Instructions-for-Authors.aspx

Finally, copies of the SRS-published book Evolving Rogerian Nursing Science: John R. Phillips’ Unique Contributions are available on Amazon (paperback $24.99; e-book $9.99). Signed copies may also be purchased for $50, with proceeds supporting the Society. Please contact me at richardcowling3@gmail.com for more information.

Thank you for your continued engagement and commitment to advancing Rogerian nursing science. I look forward to all we will accomplish together in the coming year.

Warm regards,
W. Richard Cowling III
