Link to Cheryl's profound essay "My heart is naked" is here

Memorial Page for Cheryl McGaffic
Cheryl McGaffic, along with two other nursing faculty from the University of Arizona, Barbara Monroe and Robin Rogers, were tragically murdered on Monday 28 October by a nursing student who was failing in his program. The 41-year-old student then shot himself. As a number of pages on this web site bear witness, Cheryl was an active member of the SRS and the associated listservs, and made profound and insightful contributions to the community. Words seem so inadequate here, as does prolonged commentary, but below I reproduce an anonymous poem (for which I am grateful to Mary Anne Hanley). Finally, I have also added a facility to enable individuals to contribute their own thoughts. Please make comments as you feel appropriate, thank you.

And if I go,
While you're still here...
Know that I live on, vibrating to a different measure -
behind a veil you cannot see through.
You will not see me,
so you must have faith.
I wait for the time when we can soar together again -
both aware of each other.
Until then,
live your life to its fullest and when you need me,
Just whisper my name in your heart ...
I will be there.
